Web 1.0 was the best Web.
Yes, some people still blog! I have a collection of random things I’ve written about, big and small, since 2001.
In an effort to continue my knowledge in Japanese, I’ve picked up some of my favorite Nintendo and Super Nintendo games in Japanese.
My favorite in Japanese is the old Nintendo games. Since the resolution on those games were so low, they couldn’t use kanji, so everything was in hiragana and katakana.
[hard, using kanji] 私の名前
vs
[easy, using hiragana] わたしのなまえ
One thing I found out is that the Japanese have mistakenly assumed sometimes that katakana is easier to read than hiragana for americans. This is incorrect. Most people learning the Japanese written language have a harder time with katakana.
Today I finally taught myself how to conjugate verbs to show that I am performing the action, that I wish to perform the action, and I wish for us to do the action. For example:
The verb “To see” 見る (miru) conjugates like so:
I see: 見ます (mi masu) I want to see: 見たいです (mi tai desu) Let’s see: 見ましょう (mi mashou)
The verb “To go” 行く (iku) conjugates like so:
Tropical Storm Alpha has formed southeast of Wilma. Marking the first time the Atlantic basin has had 22 named storm in a season.
Oy! These hours at work are killing me. I got home at noon and now have to wind down and try to sleep so that I can work tonight at midnight. joy!
Listening to Kidd Kraddick this morning and… I’m starting to wonder about his disappearence… Kelly said something about keeping a positive look on it all… eh? Such a comment makes me wonder if something bad has happened…
I’ve been continuing my japanese study at a pretty intense rate. I’ve even become a member of YesJapan, I heard many good things about that place, but they far exceeded my expectations. Everything is well written and the web shows are extremely funny, despite what they look like in still photos. George and Keiko is my favorite thing next to a new japanese show called Garo.
Uht oh! Here comes October 1st, and that means only one thing. The odometer on me goes up one, and I turn 25 years old. One-quarter centry… one-third of my life expectency. So what shall I do to celebrate this momentous occasion?
… absolutly nothing. I’ll come home from work, go to sleep… wake up, and just dink around the house. No big get-together, no party, I don’t even think I’ll have a cake this year. (Didn’t last year)
One of the things I like is movies and television shows from other countries. I enjoy experiencing new things, and international TV is right up my alley. Yesterday I got the chance to see two episodes of a Japanese Drama that was released from July to September in Japan. So far, this has been one of the best shows that I’ve seen, and I’m sure it’s going to get even better. The name of the show is 電車男 (Densha Otoko / train man).
Just woke up and was taking a look at a few surface maps and some ocean temperature maps. Rita is going to come across some warmer waters durring the next 12 hours, which can lead to some restrengthening. She’s also come out of her eye wall replacement cycle which means the weakening trend that cycle has caused will stop now.
The current projected path is now east of Huston, so they are spared a dirrect hit of the eye, but not out of the bullseye.
Coming down to the wire now. With 36 hours left before landfall, it’s still a guessing game of it’s exact landfall. Texas is going to get hit, although I and everyone else had figured this, there was still always chance for weather to do what it does best (suprise us) and change something. However, except for the path taking a slight jog to the east, we’re going to see a devistating hurricane make landfall here in Texas.
I’ve taken 10 days worth of satelite photos and created a video of the formation and landfall of Hurricane Katrina. Katrina.mov (Quicktime, 2.4MB)
Live Video Feed from New Orleans
I’ve got much more to say on this. I’m going to post this, and then continue to add on to it:
Gov. Kathleen Blanco is now asking for the complete evacuation of New Orleans. Some people who decided to remain are now going to be removed from the N.O. area. The situation continues to deteriorate.
This crazy hurricane season continues with Tropical Storm Katrina landing in Florida. The storm will continue on through and enter the Gulf of Mexico where it should make a sharp turn to the north… hitting Florida again.
Katrina made landfall yesterday in the southern tip of Florida. The prediction is for it to make landfall on the Florida panhandle Monday morning.
To put in perspective how insane this season has been, lets take a trip back to August 24, 1992 (13 years ago Wednesday.) Hurricane Andrew blasted through Florida with winds gusting up to 200 mph (321 km/h) in some places. Sustained winds were 165 mph (265 km/h) at landfall.
