Hurricane Season Continues
August 26, 2005

This crazy hurricane season continues with Tropical Storm Katrina landing in Florida. The storm will continue on through and enter the Gulf of Mexico where it should make a sharp turn to the north… hitting Florida again.

Katrina made landfall yesterday in the southern tip of Florida. The prediction is for it to make landfall on the Florida panhandle Monday morning.

To put in perspective how insane this season has been, lets take a trip back to August 24, 1992 (13 years ago Wednesday.) Hurricane Andrew blasted through Florida with winds gusting up to 200 mph (321 km/h) in some places. Sustained winds were 165 mph (265 km/h) at landfall.

As the name Andrew would have you notice, this was the first named tropical system of 1992. So, at this time in 1992 we were only at A, one named storm. Forwards to 2005, we are at K, named storm number 11.

On average, we have had 4 named storms by late August. We are +7 the normal this year.

Crazy!
