Ryker’s school is having 80s day today. I rolled up to his school doing my best impression of Terry Crews dramatically singing in a car to Maniac by Michael Sembello.

He wasn’t embarrassed at all and was down with it.

I had no idea that there was a new Linkin Park song released a couple weeks ago. I just listened to it and it was a kick to the guts. They came around just about the time I was beginning to process all of my horrific experiences in high school. I have no doubt that their music had a hand in helping me with this.

We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds the water.

We hammer wood for a house, but it is the inner space that makes it livable.

We work with being, but non-being is what we use.

While it is exciting to see the potential of these technologies, it is important to keep in mind that language models do not have the same emotional understanding or self-awareness as humans. We should approach the use of these technologies with caution and consider the ethical implications of their development and use, while also recognizing their limitations and continuing to prioritize human interaction and connection in our relationships and communication.

Overall, the future of AI is an exciting and potentially transformative field, but it’s important to approach it with a healthy dose of skepticism and a recognition of its limitations. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll even be able to program a sense of humor into these language models! Until then, we’ll just have to rely on our own wit and humor to get us through.

First paragraph was ChatGPT prompt: “I would like to create a reply to a YouTube video that went into deep discussion about your capabilities and how this is going to revolutionize any meaningful human interaction in the not too distant future.”

Second paragraph was prompt: “Conclude that thought with a witty remark about the future of AI.”

It literally wrote a witty joke about its position as an AI model.

I think we’re about to have a very long and important discussion on what we’re going to do about these AI-trained models. This power is out in the wild and it can’t be put back.

That Vikings-Colts game was WILD. I stopped watching when the Colts were up 33-0… then I came back when my phone alerted me to it being tied near the end at 36-36. Then the field goal with 7 seconds left in overtime to win the game for the Vikings. This also becomes the largest comeback in NFL history.

Wild.

Dear diary,

Today I invented a new dance. I call it the ant jig. See, as I was throwing away an old pool I finally had room for in the garbage for, hundreds if not thousands of ants rained down upon me. Apparently, they had taken up residence in this old pool and I was unawares.

I danced, I flailed, I even spoke in a gutural tongue. I may have to burn the clothes. I haven’t decided if I need to burn myself in a ritual of purification, yet.

I have an AI art script installed on my computer and I’ve been messing around with it for a bit. I’m going to post a few of the interesting ones I’ve made. The NHC issued advisories on this storm, so I made a video… even though it didn’t become tropical.

August 15, 2022 - 00:15:30

Everything Everywhere All At Once has quickly become one of my favorite movies. I have now seen it four or five times, and each time I watch it, I become more enamored by the entirety of it. The story, the editing, the acting, the set design, … and the absurdity! It is so off the walls sometimes. It would have been a train wreck in anyone else’s hands. But this movie is, in my opinion, one of those generational masterpieces that come out of nowhere and hits you in the feelings.

I give it 100 stars and will definitely watch it many more times.

I just saw “Paws of Fury” with the kids. I didn’t know anything about it before we went and so maybe this something widely known, but…….. it’s Blazing Saddles for kids. Literally. Instead of cowboys and the west, it’s samurai and the east. Same plot, same plot twists, same jokes, breaking the fourth wall, a dog samurai in a town of cats, making a fake town at the end … everything!

Mel Brooks helped write the script and stared as the shogun, so it suddenly all made sense to me. He even said “it’s great to be the shogun” at the end.

The shooting of former Japanese prime minister is really shocking. It is hard to describe just how incredibly rare gun violence is in Japan. If a police officer in Japan fires their gun in the line of duty, it is major national news there.

I’m pro-Tiffany who had surgery because she would literally have died without the surgery

I’m pro-Wanda who wouldn’t need surgery if she had made better life choices; however, most everyone would choose to have the same surgery in her place

I’m pro-Chad who was abducted by aliens and he came back with a hyperintelligent carnivorous plant growing in his left butt cheek so he definitely had to have surgery for that

I’m pro-Felicia who clearly didn’t need the surgery, but she had reasons to have surgery which I have determined are acceptable, and only a monster would disagree

It should be mentioned that other things on the line now, if Roe v Wade is overturned, include Obergefell (marriage equality), Lawrence (decriminalization of homosexuality), or any LGBTQ+ rights and protections that used Roe v Wade as established case law.

In fact, Roe v Wade case law has been used to defend contraceptives, interracial marriage, and even pornography possession. (Edit to add: contraceptives)

The reason they are all on the line isn’t because of Roe v Wade specifically, but because the Roe ruling was based on the 14th amendment. The Supreme Court’s current lineup has decided that the 14th can’t be used this way now. I can guarantee there will be attempts to now send cases up to the court to help overturn these things as well.

Brace yourself, the bad times are just beginning.

“The unborn are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.”

Our culture demonizes the darkness. Rest has become a sign of weakness. The natural process of aging and death have become repugnant, as if they signify impotence and shameful vulnerability.

We forget the timeless wisdom from cultures who were connected to the cycles of day and night and the seasons of the years, spring to Summer to fall to winter and back to spring once more.

The collective understanding of wholeness once viewed the opposites of life and death, light and dark, doing and being, as both necessary and related to one another. This perspective began shifting to stark polarization several thousand years ago. As this shift continued…, light became good… dark became evil… The business of constant doing now overshadows the nourishment gained from stillness and simply being.

The polarized attitude, mostly unquestioned, have dominated the Western psyche to this day

Happy 420. May the blessings of Snoop, Willie, Woody, Cheech and Chong rain down upon you.

April 9, 2022 - 00:25:50

“After World War II, the ideal of the independent man, the hero who handles everything on his own and dominates his environment, took root as the definition of psychological maturity to which a boy should aspire if you wanted to succeed in life. Girls were expected to create nurturing relationships, get married, have a family, and establish a home. Grown women were thought to be dependent and inferior in these situations.”

“This created fertile ground for men and women to lose a sense of innate value in themselves. Cultural validation was achieved through accomplishments, possessions, and material wealth, rather than cherishing others, their true nature, or that of the diverse forms of life around them.”

“Before the 20th century and the fast-paced industrialization of Western societies, children and parents worked together and with other families in agriculturally-based communities. Dependence on the natural world and other human beings was taken for granted as a necessary part of everyday life.”

“After World War ii, a mass Exodus from farms to cities disrupted these age-old patterns. extended families no longer lived in close proximity to each other; people gradually lost their identity of being embedded in community and woven into the intricate patterns of nature.”

One way to reconnect, when at the dinner table, “Begin by expressing gratitude for the abundant set before you. Start with the holy beings in your various traditions that helped you arrive safely at the table. Then, thank the cook. Perhaps you’re grateful for your very life and all the others at the table. Thank the farmers who grew the food, the truck drivers that drove the food to the grocery store, everyone working at the store, and all the people involved in feeding those people and so on. Remember the earthworms that aerated the soil in which the food grew. Acknowledge the trees for their participation in the complicated exchanges of oxygen and carbon dioxide that makes it possible for you to breathe and live. thank the blessed water that evaporates from earth, condenses into clouds, and then falls to Earth again to nourish the plants.”

“When you open your heart to all beings who have participated in your nourishment, you will realize that the entire world was directly or indirectly involved with the meal set before you! You are not alone; you are embedded in this precious web of relationships, with your own positive contributions to offer others.”

Russia is trying to threaten Finland because of their interest in joining NATO.

How did that go for them the last time?

March 25, 2022 - 18:05:07

I just heard that Russia no longer has full control over Kherson. I don’t know the validity of the claim, but I sure hope it’s true. I really hope it is true. I have three friends who have been hiding in basements, running about in secret for supplies whenever possible.

I get the funny feeling that something is about to happen in Belarus. Putin’s puppet is about to invade Ukraine, but there is really no taste for this in Belarus. Lukashenko is very unpopular and was previously saved by Putin. Should he try to get his army to invade and they revolt, I think Putin is busy elsewhere to save his useful tool.

March 17, 2022 - 22:37:37

I just talked with another Ukrainian acquaintance. She has spent the past three weeks with her son in various basements and bomb shelters in Kherson (Π₯Срсо́н). They have barely any food and there is no medicine to be found.

Oh, and she’s one of those Russian-speaking Ukrainians that Putin started this war to supposedly protect! She’s never felt unsafe until they came in bombs blasting.

This needs to be over.

March 17, 2022 - 11:20:54

Fun fact: Ukrainian farmers are now ranked 38th globally for most tanks owned. (A bit over 500 captured, but this number is unconfirmed)

I haven’t seen it on major international news networks yet, but a few of my Ukrainian acquaintances have shared some photos from Mariupol that indicate Russia just dropped a heavy bomb on a drama theater that was housing at least 1200 civilians were taking shelter.
