Web 1.0 was the best Web.
Yes, some people still blog! I have a collection of random things I’ve written about, big and small, since 2001.
So, it’s 7:02am… and I haven’t slept all night… whats worse is that I am going to be at work in 58 minutes!
So what kept me up all night? That’s a very goood question, and it’s one I can’t answer. I was on Final Fantasy XI until about midnight. I loged off pretty much at that time. I went down stairs and played Grand Theft Auto III on the XBox for a bit, watched G4TV, and now here I am.
I have joined the ever crazy world of having a journal online. A world where people divulge personal information to people they have never met before. A place where logic and sanity ends, and the thoughts of the human mind begin. An area where you learn if your friends really and truly are unstable. Yes, I have joined this world!!
I’ll have my doctor give me a CAT scan.
So, about me. Who am I?
In 1 or 2 weeks, I’ll be leaving the United States for Germany. I will not be off the internet for too long (only for the plane trip over, and maybe a few extra days after that), however, there are a few things I will no longer be able to do. One of them is Ch@b ID’s… I will no longer be able to submit Ch@b ID’s for Dreamcast users.
I’m sitting here in Virginia (well, I’m at my uncles, so really I’m in Maryland), and just wanted to say hi. I’m having with-draws from the internet and can not wait to get home this weekend. I think I’ve figured out how to extract the icons from the VMS files for Dreamserv… … I know it isn’t an important thing, but I always thought having those icons that appear in the Dreamcast VMU Manager would be a cool thing to have on the site.
I went out on a limb, and completly removed a part of the script for the uploader… it may, or may not, allow large files to download.
I posted on my website that the uploader is in test mode and my not work correctly. If you wish to test it, just upload any large VMU file, 128 blocks or larger. If it works, great… if not… I may jump out this window next to me
With changes I will be making soon, plus plots strong argument for having a contact page, I’ve decided to go that route myself. So, if you ever need to get ahold of me, the place is:

Ok, on to other things…..
I’m still a little stumped on the large vmu files problem… tomorrow night, if I have time, I’m going to run an experiement or two and see what I can pull up…
Since I don’t own a VMU file this large, I was wondering if someone could upload a file that is at least 128 blocks and try uploading it, then downloading it at my site… if it works, then I figured out and fixed the problem….. if it doesn’t work – well…. I’ll just pretend I was only testing something and… yeah….
First, I wanted to say that I finally got my Dreamcast to work 🙂
I opened up the case and pulled apart and reattached the laser head and all is well (for now)…
which leads me to my next finding at my website… I now think I know what is causing large files to fail in their download. I tested a download today and the size of it was 168 Blocks, however, on the confirmation screen [[ do you want to download this ]] it stated that the download was over 16000 blocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t notice how compact SofDec Audio is until I started playing with my Dreamcast SDK…. take a look at these numbers
First, I played with a test file (the hum that is in the background of the test video)
| Format | File Size |
|---|---|
| WAV | 2,585 KB |
| MP3 | 236 KB |
| SFA | 92 KB |
After I saw this, I thought I’d put it to a test by compressing a full length song.
These movies are 5 seconds long with just a blue screen that says “Compatibility Test”.
dctest.m1v has no sound
dctest2.sfd has a humming sound.
