Poetry Shack Comments / Prisoner of Doubt
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:30
QuoteShadows creep as the phone starts to ring,
Trapped in my mind, a prisoner of doubt.
The world's against me, or so it seems.

Heart pounds fast, I can't do this thing.
Frozen in fear, I long to break out,
Shadows creep as the phone starts to ring.

New day dawns, but no peace does it bring.
Can't find the key, can't find my way out,
The world's against me, or so it seems.

In my car-fortress, I sit lingering,
To face the world, I hesitate about.
Shadows creep as the phone starts to ring.

Years have passed, no job to my name clings,
In conversations, I'm drowning in doubt.
The world's against me, or so it seems.

But deep inside, a strength's gathering,
A whisper grows, too soft to shout.
Shadows creep as the phone starts to ring,
The world's against me, but I'll break free, it seems.

Poetry Shack Comments / The Noble Suffering
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:26
QuoteIn this world of fleeting forms we dwell,
Life's impermanence, a truth unfolds.
Suffering weaves through all we know too well.

We grasp at shadows as illusions swell,
While pleasure fades and beauty grows old.
In this world of fleeting forms we dwell.

Dukkha's truth, a tolling temple bell,
In birth and death, its message bold:
Suffering weaves through all we know too well.

Attachment binds, desires compel,
Discontent seeds in what we hold.
In this world of fleeting forms we dwell.

Yet liberation's path this truth foretells,
A step towards freedom, bright as gold.
Suffering weaves through all we know too well.

With open eyes, we break the spell,
Embracing what the Noble Truth has told.
In this world of fleeting forms we dwell,
Suffering weaves through all we know too well.

Poetry Shack Comments / The Sweetness of Time
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:25
QuoteTick-tock, the clock spins, each moment a gift unwrapping in time,
Gray hairs and laugh lines, my story's just beginning in time.

Some say youth flees, but I find life growing sweeter,
Each day a new page, my curiosity winning in time.

The world opens wide, I'm loving this ride,
Fresh wonders unfold, innovations spinning in time.

New inventions arise, I'm front-row to creation,
There's so much to learn, knowledge ever deepening in time.

They claim the best's past, but I see marvels ahead,
The future's bright mystery, its promise still gleaming in time.

Wisdom earned through years lived, grateful for life's gifts,
I'm writing my history, its chapters still beaming in time.

The view from here's fine, Doug, the journey's just right,
Getting older leaves me wanting more, my spirit grinning in time.

Poetry Shack Comments / Growing Up Different
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:19
QuoteNeon lights and Ninja Turtles
A world that moved too fast
Trying to fit in, but always feeling
Like a glitch in the matrix

They said, "You're smart, but you're so lazy"
"Just focus, try, get it right"
But my mind was a whirlwind
And I couldn't find the light

Final Fantasy and Power Rangers
But I couldn't save myself
From the whispers and the sideways glances
Always the odd one on the shelf

They said, "You've got so much potential"
"Why can't you pay attention?"
But my mind couldn't filter out the noise
So I spent so many days in detention

Little me, I see you struggling
In a world that doesn't understand
Weird kid, always on the outside
Game controller firmly in hand

I wish I could reach through time
And tell you it's not your fault
You're not broken, just different
Your mind works in its own way

Now I'm older, and I see much clearer
The labels that tried to define
ADHD and autism - just words
For a beautifully different design

Looking back with love and sadness
For the child I used to be
Healing now, embracing madness
Finally learning to be free

Poetry Shack Comments / Green Tara's Embrace
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:15
QuoteGreen Tara, hear our fervent call,
Emerald light in darkest night,
Your seven eyes see fears of all.

Swift to answer, you stand tall,
Lotus-born, compassion's might.
Green Tara, hear our fervent call.

Fearless grace, divine forestall,
Vanquishing demons, calming fright,
Your seven eyes see fears of all.

"Om Tare Tuttare Ture" we drawl,
Ancient mantra, wisdom's light.
Green Tara, hear our fervent call.

Mother of liberation's thrall,
Bodhisattva, guiding sight,
Your seven eyes see fears of all.

In your presence, we stand small,
Yet awakened to infinite height.
Green Tara, hear our fervent call,
Your seven eyes see fears of all.

QuoteAs a private citizen, he redefined the role of former presidents, dedicating himself to humanitarian efforts through the Carter Center. This institution went on to combat disease, promote free elections, and advocated for peace. The work in eradicating Guinea worm disease and advancing global health initiatives came from his belief in the power of collective action for the common good.

Doug's Shack Blog Comments / Simpsons at 35

Gather around children. I was there, oh so very long ago. It is hard to believe that The Simpsons has turned 35 years old. So much of our society has changed since the early 1990s. At the time, The Simpsons wasn't just a television show, it was a phenomenon that embedded itself into the collective consciousness with an influence that, in retrospect, feels almost quaint.

Doug's Shack Blog Comments / A Thought
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 03, 2025, 22:25
QuoteAll you need to do today is promote kindness. Remind your coworkers, friends, family, students, and even strangers what it means to be compassionate. Show empathy to someone today - they might really need it. Walk confidently knowing you're contributing to a better world because you choose love over hate.
