Poetry Shack Comments / Gathering Clouds
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 11, 2025, 19:55
QuoteThunder murmurs on the horizon,
Carried by whispers in late-night broadcasts.
Bright suits convene in hidden corners,
Signing promises that dim with each passing hour.
Illusions and silver tongues tangle in darkness,
Where no eyes dare to see what's being sold.

Clouds spiral, heavy with silence...
A hush that weighs on every breath.
We sense an unspoken dread,
Lines traced in invisible ink,
Drawn between fear and compliance,
While hearts fracture beneath the strain.

Hope cowers in empty corridors
Where footsteps echo like distant warnings.
A chess match unfolds behind the curtain,
Moves made without a single cry.
We stand in the crosshairs of fate,
Counting each beat before the skies unleash.

And then, the calm surrenders...
The storm's truth revealed in a single flash.
Broken voices rise to meet the roar,
Shattering illusions once carved in stone.
No shield from this final reckoning:
The war arrives as shadows devour the last light.

Poetry Shack Comments / Crushed Under the Cross
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 01:19
QuoteNeon crosses blind us, crushing dreams
Sacred words twist to chains, crushing dreams

Preaching love but practicing only hate
Marginalized fates remain, crushing dreams

Rainbow flags torn, identities spurned
Brown skin threats ordained, crushing dreams

Walls built high with hypocrite prayers
Desperate cares disdained, crushing dreams

Their paradise, a hell for the oppressed
Christo-fascist reign crushing dreams

Thoughts and prayers become our bullets
Suffocating truths profaned, crushing dreams

From these ashes, we'll rise stronger still
Your cross's power waned, crushing dreams

Poetry Shack Comments / Echoes of Farewell
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:49
QuoteThe silence settles, a heavy cloak,
Upon a room where memories spoke.
Fading pictures, gilded frames,
Hold stories, whispers, and forgotten names.

A name escapes upon the breeze,
A candle's flame, a heart's unease.

Echoes of farewell, a hollow sound,
Resonate deep, where moments abound.
A symphony of time, we cannot disguise,
Shadows stretch long, and then they rise.
Yet, love's embrace, a steady guide,
In echoes of farewell, our hearts reside.

Footsteps vanish, down hallways bare,
The clock's soft rhythm, hangs in the air.
Letters sealed, left on the shelf,
Words unsaid, echoes of self.

Stars align, in the quiet night,
Reflecting tears, a weary sight.

Echoes of farewell, a mournful plea,
A symphony of moments, forever with me.
Shadows stretch and slowly wane,
But love's embrace, remains the same.
In echoes of farewell, we find our way,
Through the fading light of yesterday.

Waves may wash our tracks from sight,
Yet, memories glow, with inner light.
Deep in the heart, echoes reside,
Whispers past, where distant calls abide.

Echoes of farewell, they softly gleam,
Guiding us onward, like a tender dream.
Though paths diverge, and time may flow,
We carry you always, where love will grow.
In echoes of farewell, we'll never part,
Forever held, within the heart.

The room is still, the silence deep,
But hope's ember glows, while shadows sleep.

Poetry Shack Comments / The Wound That Won't Heal
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:48
QuoteTime's relentless march
Echoes through the halls
Of those I love

Their steps grow slow
Their voices dim
The wound that won't heal setting in

We plan for comfort
Not for cure
The hourglass empties

The end's a story yet untold
But why does fear grip tight?
The wound that won't heal leaves no one behind

I wonder when my time will come
Will it be slow or swift and numb?
That moment when hope slips away

We're scared when we know
That options have faded and we're alone
The wound that won't heal is coming for us all

Why do we fear the unknown date?
Every second lived is a victory won
Against the setting of our sun

So live and love while time allows
For every moment seals our fate
With that one last wound that won't mend

Isn't every breath we take
A gift that time cannot erase?
With countless memories to transcend

We dance on the edge
Of a future undefined
But the wound that won't heal leaves no one behind

Poetry Shack Comments / Hail to Which Chief?
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:47
QuoteHail to the chief
     the marching band plays
A crowd of people have gathered
under the sun's cold January rays

Out from a limo
     with armor to defend
Three gassed up men
     ready to pretend

An old rich "billionaire"
who got his money from daddy
And a young "hillbilly"
that got every job from a PayPal baddie

And to no one's surprise
     a third man steps out
Wearing a goofy fucking leather jacket
who it is, there can be no doubt

The richest man in the world
     with his phoney faux hair
Acting a fool in his drugged stupor
dripping with masculine gender affirming care

Trump, Musk, Vance, or Thiel
who's the puppet and who's the master?
In the end, does it really matter?
when we're all to blame for the ugly disaster.

QuoteAnother amazing personal site, Midousuji. Inspired to write another little poem.

Rainbows in the clouds so high
Pixelated pups beneath the sky
Midousuji's name, a colorful place
Collections shown with dreamy grace

Poetry Shack Comments / Song for the Forgotten Gate
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:46
QuoteA poem quickly written for a forum thread over at Melonland Forums.

At midnight's hush, a rusted gate
Creaks softly as it contemplates
A thousand steps that passed before
Faded laughter, hopes, and more.
Alone it stands in weedy rest,
A silent guardian, at its best.

QuoteThe website MyPillowFort is adorable. And, it is one of the many reasons I love the small web/indie web/Web 1.0. I was inspired to write this poem.

a castle of dreams, soft and bright
with colors of pastel light,
of rainbow arches, a gentle guide
to a room where whimsy does reside.

Poetry Shack Comments / Aurora's Trail
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:43
QuoteAmid the clatter of a holiday's hurry,
She chose me, her hand reaching mine—
"Let's walk," she said, with a voice that softened the world.

Through the streets of our quiet neighborhood,
Her whim led us,
Past the paved and known,
To where the sidewalk gave way to adventure.

A trail rose, bending into grassy whispers,
And the hill lifted us above the neighborhood
Into a realm where trees spoke in rustling tones.

Bare branches stretched like watchful giants,
And the ground, a carpet of leaves,
Carried our steps—
Slow, steady, and full of wonder.

Aurora's eyes caught the secrets of the woods,
Each fallen branch,
Each hidden corner,
A treasure she shared in delighted whispers.

The forest cradled us in stillness,
Its paths winding into an unhurried escape.
Together we wandered,
Finding more than the end of the trail—
We found a pause in time.

Returning home, the spell lingered,
The quiet woods etched into my heart.
Aurora, without knowing,
Had led me to a sanctuary—
A place that will always belong to her discovery,
And to us.

Poetry Shack Comments / The Thread We've Lost
Last post by Doug's Shack - Jan 04, 2025, 00:42
QuoteI walked alone through a city of faces,
Eyes downcast, moving to nameless places.
Each step echoed in the hollowed street,
A thousand hearts, but none would meet.
I thought, perhaps, this is strength,
To need no one, to keep my distance.
But the silence sang a different tune,
A mournful cry beneath the moon.
