Happy Chrishaunakwanzasolsticeyule
December 16, 2005

Last Saturday, I was driving my sister to work when we got talking about the Christmas time of the year. We started talking about saying “Merry Christmas” versus “Happy Holidays” and if anyone truly found it offensive. I then mentioned how would you know to say something else, like Happy Kawanza, or Happy Chanukah… or any other various beliefs. What about the pegans and their celebration of yule? What about those who have no celebration. You must include them! By all that is good and holy in this world, you can not exclude anyone for fear of offending them.

Therefore, I invented on Saturday, while driving my sister to work: Happy Chrishaunakwanzasolsticeyule. That would be Christmas, Chanakah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice, and Yule all together in one non-offensive greeting. (Misspelling of the “hanu” to “hauna” in the Chanukah portion is done on purpose to make the word flow smoother.)

I decided this would be a one-week long celebration beginning Dec 25 and ending Dec 31. The last full week of December is Chrishaunakwanzasolsticeyule Celebration Week. Which fits perfectly in each day’s square on a calendar.

  1. Chris
  2. Hauna
  3. Kwanza
  4. Solstice
  5. Yule
  6. Celebration
  7. Week
