It’s Back! This time, coming for us here in Texas.
Although unsure of anytime before satellites, this is the first time since we’ve been able to track tropical cyclones via satellites that we’ve had one make landfall, get swept away like most of them do, but make a back track south, back into the Gulf of Mexico, and regain strength. Enter, Ivan… again. Although nowhere near as powerful as Ivan was a week ago, it’s still going to give a good amount of rain wherever it hits.
The NHC spent a good amount of time debating if this should be named Ivan again, or go with the next name in the list (Matthew). The reason for the debate is that part of the original Ivan system continues on it’s north and then north east travel. The circulation of the system took it’s looping track back over Florida, and into the gulf. After a little talk, they decided to name it Ivan again.
Three other tropical cyclones are out in the atlantic. Tropical Storm Lisa, Hurricane Karl (becoming extratropical), and Hurricane Jeanne (moving west torwards the eastern US).
Can this hurricane season get any stranger?
